As the countdown to the start of the World Cup continues, the anticipation is building. So what City-related stories are in today's headlines?

Let's start with FourFourTwo's report that although David Silva has a preferred position, he would happily adapt to other roles to be in the reigning world champions' starting XI.

Quoted in an article, Silva revealed: "I like to play behind the striker. I have been playing there this year with Manchester City and I feel really good.

"Anyway, I have played in a lot of positions for the national squad and I just try to adapt myself. In regards to our strikers, we have really good strikers, so I can play with any of them.

"I've always earned my place in the team. I have played in two European Championships and in the World Cup where I didn't play a lot, but I did in the Euros.

"And now it will be the coach who decides. I just have to wait my opportunity to do everything well and keep playing at a high level, and everything will be OK."

El Mago also highlighted the importance of securing a good start for La Roja, with their opening games in their last two major tournaments ending with a draw and a defeat.

Silva asserted: "The first game is always is very important, although we lost the first game in the last World Cup and went on to win. But we know we will take a big step if we win the first game."

Elsewhere, according to talkSPORT, Bosnian goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has deemed Edin Dzeko one of the best strikers in the world.

The Stoke shot-stopper apparently declared: "Having him in your team gives you half a chance because he can score a goal out of nothing. We have some good quality in our team, he leads from the front for us and he's one of our main players.

"He plays in one of the best teams in the world and has to prove himself each and every day to everybody.

"He's a fantastic striker - one of the best in the world in my opinion. We're glad he’s on our side and if he’s firing, then it gives us half a chance - that's for sure."

And finally, the Daily Mail have chosen to run a story on the topic of World Cup 'selfies'. After a group shot of the Argentina squad on the plane to Brazil was posted across the social media stage, Richard Arrowsmith also found a photo snapped by Sergio Aguero.

Writes Arrowsmith: "Paris Saint Germain striker Ezequiel Lavezzi chose the confines of their airplane aisle to post La Albiceleste's first Instagram group selfie - featuring star names such as Javier Mascherano, Angel Di Maria and Pablo Zabaleta - with the caption: 'Together for the same dream'.

"Diminutive forwards Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero found space for a more intimate shot of the pair, posted on the Manchester City striker's Twitter with the more predictable message: 'With Leo, heading to Brazil!! Come on Argentina'.

"Aguero and Messi are also likely to be competing for the competition's Golden Boot award as arguably two of the most potent forwards in world football," Arrowsmith continued.

"Messi has come under rare criticism for a relatively quiet season by his standards, but is hoping for a reversal of fortune with his country - while Aguero will be confident having claimed a second Premier League title with City, despite struggling with injuries."
