Rumours about a Lille midfielder and an Empoli loanee, plus Spurs defender Kevin Wimmer feature in today’s media round-up…
We start today with a rumour that featured briefly during our Transfer Talk feature in January. According to Goal, via L’Equipe, City are one of three Premier League clubs targeting Lille’s Sofiane Boufal.
Goal write: “Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are all targeting a move for Lille playmaker Sofiane Boufal, according to L'Equipe.
“The 22-year-old, who has been dubbed 'the next Eden Hazard' has scored six goals in 20 Ligue 1 appearances this season and is currently one of the most highly-rated young talents in the country.
“Lille want £16 million for the Moroccan, who has three years left on his current deal with PSG, Inter and Juventus are also monitoring developments.”
Next up is a follow up story from yesterday’s media round-up about Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes, who is currently on loan at Empoli.
The Mirror reported that City were set to rival Liverpool for the signing of the 21-year old and Talksport use a similar angle for a report on the Argentine midfielder.
An article on the Talksport website reads: “Manchester City are ready to challenge Liverpool for the signing of Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes.
“The 21-year-old is currently impressing on loan at Empoli, where he has scored twice in 20 Serie A outings so far this term.
“Roma only signed him back in 2014 and have been excited by his form at Empoli with reports suggesting he will be part of their first-team squad from the summer.
“But Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is well aware of Paredes' talent and has been linked with a summer move for the Argentine.
“However, according to reports in Italy, Roma are now bracing themselves for interest from another club in England - Manchester City.”
Turning the focus to Sunday’s clash with Spurs at the Etihad and their defender Kevin Wimmer has had his say on the Valentine’s Day meet.
One of the news outlets carrying quotes from the 23-year old is the London Evening Standard, who focus on a line from the centre back about the pressure being on City.
The Austrian is quoted as saying: “We’re also one of the best teams in the league [like them] so there is no team we should be worried about because we know what we can do and we’re in a very good mood at the moment.
“They lost against Leicester so they have a little bit of pressure, they know they have to win now. It’s never easy to play away against such big teams but we have a good chance to get the points there as well.
“It’s not that bad that they lost against Leicester. Now they have big pressure, they are behind us, they know they have to win. It’s not going to be easy for them.
“It’s a very important game for both teams and it’s going to be a big fight and hopefully we can get points there. We will do everything we can.”
