We’re in the thick of the transfer window, but the transfer rumours are relatively thin on the ground this frosty morning.
With boss Manuel Pellegrini happy with a squad that is firing on four fronts, attention is placed on other clubs prising City’s talents away from the Etihad.
When it comes to football talent few possess more on the planet than Sergio Aguero, so it’s no surprise his name is periodically linked with a big move.
Rumours of Real Madrid’s interest have been lingering for a while, and the Daily Star hint the La Liga giants could be ready to make their play.
“The Argentine ace has been on their radar for at least 18 months and remains a top target,” Jeremy Cross writes.
“Aguero is one of the most feared strikers in world football and Etihad bosses have no intention of losing him.
“But Pellegrini admits a bid from Real could be possible for their £80m-rated star and he said: ‘I don't talk about these things, but we never know what might happen. It will not be easy for these clubs (Real) and they want to buy the top players. But we are just thinking about this moment and what we need to do.’”
Aguero is also the focus of a report of in the Manchester Evening News, with team-mate Bacary Sagna explaining just why the Argentinian striker is so effective.
Their article reads: “Sergio Aguero is a cross between Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry.
“That’s the view of City full-back Bacary Sagna who believes the Argentine is so good he is getting extra attention from Premier League defences in order to nulify his threat.
“Aguero has had a difficult season, with injuries affecting his form, but Sagna remains firmly of the belief he’s one of the best around.
“'He’s unbelievable,’ Sagna said.
“'He has that difference to make him a top striker.
“'Some players will say he doesn’t score enough this season but other teams aren’t stupid - they give him more attention.
“'They bring more players around him. We have to find another solution to help him. Maybe we have to step up and players have to show more character to try and score themselves.
“'To me he is a mix of Henry and Messi. In smaller spaces he manages to keep the ball well. He showed against Norwich that he can be quite tricky and selfish to score that goal.’”
Finally there are more reports of interest in City starlets Bersant Celina and Patrick Roberts.
The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel states: “Manchester City's most talented youngsters are being targeted for loan moves by Celtic.
“The Scottish champions want teenage forwards Patrick Roberts and Bersant Celina, having struck a relationship with City that saw John Guidetti and Jason Denayer enjoy spells at Celtic Park last season.
“Roberts, 18, arrived from Fulham last summer and has made three first-team appearances so far.
“Celina, 19, made his senior debut last Saturday in the FA Cup win over Norwich at Carrow Road.
“City are keen for their youngsters to go out on loan, provided they regularly play first-team football.
“But Celtic face competition. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is interested in England Under 19 international Roberts.
“Derby and Middlesbrough are among several Championship clubs tracking Celina, who is in negotiations over a new long-term deal at the Etihad Stadium.”
