Garcia ready to run down United

Spanish midfielder Javi Garcia has called upon his teammates to maintain the standards set in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Newcastle in the quest to run down Manchester United.

Garcia headed his second goal for the club and turned in his most assured 90 minutes in a City shirt to date in the win at St James’ Park.

Now, he has demanded that the Blues don’t let up in the pursuit of their neighbours at the table summit.

“If we maintain those standards I think we can chase down Manchester United,” said the Spaniard in today’s Telegraph, “I don't know if it's the best half we have played, but we definitely played very well.

“If we play as well as that then we are going to be very difficult to stop. If we continue to have that attitude, we will be very hard to beat.

“The good thing about the Premier League is that anyone can pull off a surprise and there are other teams who can push up the league and challenge for the title. But if we finish above United, I think we will win the league.”

Meanwhile, Bradley Wiggins was named Sports Personality of the Year at the award ceremony in London and City duo Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero were in attendance, reliving their title-winning exploits infront of 16,000 spectators.

The pair were given a heroes’ welcome, with the entire crowd doing the Poznan and belting out a rendition of Blue Moon.

Kompany took to Twitter to share a picture of them backstage.

"Me & @AgueroSergioKun borrowed something backstage. Let’s hope Mr. Wiggins won’t mind."

In transfer news, Paulinho has ruled out a move to the Premier League from newly-crowned Club World Cup Champions Corinthians.

Inter, Chelsea and City were all said to be linked with the midfielder but he has pledged his future to the club after they saw off Chelsea in the Club World Cup final in Yokohama yesterday.

Another player linked with the Blues set to stay with his club is highly rated French full-back Lucas Digne who has signed a new deal at Lille.
