Garrido is a left back who, despite being just 22-years-old, had nearly three full seasons in Spain’s La Liga under his belt by the time he moved to City from Real Sociedad in August 2007.

He made his debut for the Spanish side early in the 2004/05 season and impressed in a team that was relegated at the end of 2006/07.

City moved quickly to snap up the Spanish Under 21 international for a fee of £1.5million.

He made his debut for Sven-Goran Eriksson in the opening game of the 2007/08 season against West Ham at Upton Park as the Blues won 2-0.

Garrido kept Michael Ball out of the starting line up for the early part of his first campaign though the England international eventually became the first-choice left back,

When Mark Hughes arrived as boss for the 2008/09 there was another tussle between Garrido and Ball for the starting berth.  However neither he nor Ball managed to cement their place in the side and Wayne Bridge's arrival in January 2009 saw Garrido slip out of the first team picture. He made 17 league and cup starts in the 2008-09 season.

Javi was on the sidelines of the team until the arrival of Roberto Mancini and an injury to Wayne Bridge in December 2009 saw him return to the starting line-up on several occasions. However it was as a substitute that he showed off his penchant for a free kick, coming off the bench at Molineux to slot one in around the wall to help City on to a 3-0 win.
