City on Rekik:
Versatile Dutch defender Karim Rekik is highly thought of at City, as highlighted in a clutch of appearances for the first team in pre-season friendlies and domestic cup matches.
Rekik is a cultured defender, extremely comfortable in possession with an extensive passing range and is able to anticipate a striker’s next move to neutralise opposition attacks.
Karim made his City debut in last season’s Carling Cup third round, coming on as a substitute in City’s 2-0 win. He joined the first team party in Austria as well, joining Abdul Razak and Luca Scapuzzi in the Alps.
He made his Premier League debut against Reading in December 2012 and turned in an accomplished performance at left-back.
The 6ft defender can play at left-back as well as centre-back and has represented the Netherlands at under-19 level.
He spent the end of the 2012/13 season on loan at Blackburn and joined PSV on a year-long loan on 10 July 2013.
Karim's excellent performances throughout the Eredivisie saw him called up to the preliminary Netherlands squad for the 2014 World Cup.
Unfortunately, Rekik failed to make the final 23 but he can reflect on a hugely impressive first season as a first-teamer.
He made 31 appearances for PSV in 2013/14 and scored his first senior goal against Vitesse on 7 December 2013.
