Providing back-up to Joe Hart and Willy Caballero, former England goalkeeper Richard Wright signed for City in August 2012.

Following a brief spell with Preston North End, the shot-stopper joined the club on a free transfer. Although the deal originally stood for just one-year, he since signed two contract extensions and continues to form part of the Blues’ goalkeeping union as a positive influence.

Wright began his career with Ipswich Town and made more than 300 appearances for the Tractor Boys during three separate spells with the club. He played a pivotal role in their play-off triumph in 2000, saving a penalty in the final victory over Barnsley.

He made a total of 355 league and cup appearances for Ipswich and was voted as the Players’ and Supporters' Player of the Season in his second spell at Portman Road.

After six years at the club, he left Suffolk to join Arsenal in 2001. During his time in North London, he collected Premier League and FA Cup medals.

Although he had been pictured as a long-term successor to David Seaman, Wright then joined Everton where he remained for five years before having further spells at Ipswich (twice), West Ham, Southampton, Sheffield United and Preston.

The ‘keeper also won two England caps during his career - one against Malta and the other against Holland - having collected 15 under-21 caps during a spell when he was competing with City’s Nicky Weaver for young England international honours.

Wright has made more than 450 career appearances to date.
