City on Rodwell:

Jack Rodwell became City’s first signing of the summer transfer window in 2012, coming in for an undisclosed amount on the same day as the Blues’ 3-2 Community Shield win over Chelsea.

A versatile player, equally adept at playing as an attacking or defensive midfielder, the 21-year old has been touted as one of the brightest prospects in English football since first breaking through to the Everton first team at the age of 16.

Jack broke the record for the youngest player to ever represent the Toffees in Europe, coming off the bench against AZ in 2007 at the age of 16 and 284 days.

His first Premier League start was in March 2008 where he appeared against Sunderland and he featured again on the final day of the 2007/08 season.

One of his most memorable moments in an Everton shirt was in February 2010 when he scored for the Merseysiders against Manchester United in a 3-1 win.

The midfield drove through midfield and powered the ball home, announcing himself onto the domestic scene in one of more than 100 appearances he’s made for for Everton.

He has played all the way through the England age-groups and captained the England under-16 team to Victory Shield glory in 2006. He then graduated to captain the under-18 side before progressing to the under-21s, starring in the centre of midfield at the European Under-21 Championships in 2009 and 2010.

It wasn’t too long before a senior call-up arrived in 2011/12 and he was rewarded for his form with a debut in the 1-0 win over Spain at Wembley. The Birkdale-born midfielder’s first start came just three days later when he played against Sweden in another 1-0 win.

In the summer of 2012 Rodwell was disappointed to miss out on a call up to the Team GB squad for London 2012 but he had missed long stretches of the season due to a niggling hamstring injury.

It was telling, however, that Rodwell was immediately called back into Roy Hodgson’s England squad just before his transfer to City was secured – proving just how highly he is regarded.

Although Jack suffered an injury hampered first season with the club, he still shone whenever he took to the field, most notably against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium in 2012/13 when he was named Man of the Match.

Jack won his first Premier League title in 2013/14 and was also a Capital One Cup winner as City beat Sunderland 3-1 at Wembley.
