City on McManus:

Defender Abbie McManus made the step up from the Development Squad to the Manchester City Women's first-team in a 1-0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium back in May, having made a substitute appearance for the Blues just days before in an away defeat to Doncaster Rovers Belles.

Since then, Prestwich-born McManus has become a first-team regular for Nick Cushing's side with a string of impressive performances.

She scored her first goal for the club with a stunning first-time effort against champions Liverpool Ladies in just her second start, unleashing an unstoppable effort into the top corner to give the home side the lead in the Continental Cup clash.

Though calm and assured in possession, whilst strong and determined in tackles, McManus describes her best trait as her teamwork.

When asked of her hopes for the remainder of the season, she replied with her desire to win some silverware. Talented and still young, the defender will learn a lot from the experienced professionals around her and could become an integral part of the team if she continues to develop at her current rate.
