In managing the tourism industry of the emirate, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority works closely with tourism-specific stakeholders and is responsible for marketing the destination internationally through a wide range of activities aimed at attracting visitors and investment.
The authority, winner of the World's Leading Destination Marketing Campaign at the 2011 World Travel Awards, operates a globally recognised hotel classification scheme and is pro-active in industry professional development providing training for stakeholders across a range of activities.
As well as honouring the emirate's heritage by supporting intellectual and artistic activities and cultural events to nurture a rich cultural environment, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority has created a packed international events programme to position the emirate as a major events destination.
These include: the annual PGA European Tour-sanctioned Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship; the Al Ain Aerobatics Show; the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon; Gourmet Abu Dhabi and Summer in Abu Dhabi. The emirate also made history in January 2012 when it became the first Middle East destination to be a stopover destination in the Volvo Ocean Race – a round-the-world sailing odyssey.
On the corporate meetings and events front, Abu Dhabi is increasingly active in the international conference sector and, in February 2012, hosted the World Ophthalmology Congress - its largest-ever convention.
Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority operates international offices in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, China, Australia, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the United States of America and is present at an increasing number of global trade events.
