Manchester City played host to a very special guest on Saturday, and there was no way that the inclement weather was going to put this VIP off.
Celia Hodkin, who will celebrate her 88th birthday this coming Friday, has been coming to see the Blues since she was nine years old but she enjoyed a unique visit to the Etihad Stadium when Fulham came to town.
Hailing from New Moston, Celia took in the tour of the dressing room and tunnel area a couple of hours before kick-off before meeting the squad as they arrived.
As well as getting every player’s signature on a match ball, Celia received a birthday cake from Club Ambassador Mike Summerbee and had her photo taken pitch-side with former player and Connell Awards Manager Alex Williams. Celia also pops up in our Tunnel Cam video, chatting to coach Brian Kidd before kick-off.
Cath Stone, Celia’s daughter, said her mum loved every second of her day, which was capped off with the Blues battling to victory in snowy conditions.
“My Mum had an absolutely wonderful day,” she told mcfc.co.uk, “she said she felt that everyone at City made her feel as important as the Queen!
“Everybody, from the players to all the staff who looked after her, had so much time for Mum and made her feel very special. Nothing was too much trouble and she did not want the day to end.
“Manchester City has been a big part of Mum’s life for so long but the way the club went out of their way to treat her so well was marvellous, and our family cannot thank them enough for what they did for her.”
