Long may City’s King of Africa reign...

Yaya Toure has been named CAF African Footballer of the Year for the fourth-successive year at a ceremony hosted by Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria.

That ties Toure with Samuel Eto’o as the player to receive the title on most occasions from Africa’s football governing body but no-one had ever won four in a row until now.

The 31-year old saw off competition from Vincent Enyema and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to become the latest recipient of the coveted award on Thursday night.

Toure polled 175 votes against 120 by Aubameyang whilst Enyeama settled for third-place with 105 points.

A poll of 56 African national team coaches and technical directors made their choice following yet another supreme year for City's Ivorian midfielder in which he also won the Club's Etihad Player of the Year award.

Toure spoke of his pride at collecting this historic award, and declared: "I always try to give my best whenever I’m on the field of play.

"It was a close one because Vincent and Aubameyang were impressive in their respective clubs and national teams as well. This time around, I would say luck did it again and I’m really proud about this.”

Only Wilfried Bony and Sergio Aguero scored more Premier League goals in 2014 than the City no.42’s 17 strikes from 34 matches.

He finished the 2013/14 season as a Premier League and Capital One Cup winner and he played no small part in either of City’s successes.

Yaya became only the second midfielder in Premier League history to score 20 goals in a season, finishing as third top-scorer in the division.

He also saved his best goal of the campaign for the Capital One Cup final at Wembley - a stunning 35 yard curler which drew City level with Sunderland.

Toure has already scored nine goals in the 2014/15 season as he continues to prove himself to be one of the most influential players in the European game.

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Yaya on his fantastic achievement.
