Lionel Messi scored an added time winner for Argentina who laboured to beat a spirited Iran side in Group F.
The Albiceleste looked anything but favourites to win the World Cup as group minnows Iran almost pulled off a shock draw, but as the game went into time added on for stoppages, Messi cut in from the left and curled a beautiful shot past Haghighi to send the Argentina fans wild.
Sergio Aguero endured a frustrating afternoon in the sun with chances few and far between and he was eventually substituted on 77 minutes having been unable to show anywhere near his best form – but that could be said of all his team-mates, too.
Pablo Zabaleta had his usual steady game, though he was perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty during a challenge with Dejagah and the Fulham star gave the City favourite a busy afternoon.
Argentina are now guaranteed a place in the knock-out stages but will look to end the group stages with a win against Nigeria in the final game.
Bosnia-Hercegovina take on Nigeria later this evening.
