Rafael Benítez is eyeing City striker Edin Dzeko as a possible replacement for Napoli’s Edison Cavani, according to a number of reports.
Cavani has been linked with a string of clubs this summer, including City, but Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as the frontrunners for the Uruguayan's signature, leaving Napoli boss Benítez with a gap to fill.
“Benitez has Manchester City hitman Dzeko, 27, on his radar, along with Fiorentina’s Steven Jovetic, 23,” writes The Sun’s Martin Blackburn.
“If City do sell, they would look to recoup most of the £27m they paid Wolfsburg for Dzeko in 2011. Former City boss Roberto Mancini reckons Dzeko would shine in Italy.”
Staying with that story - the Daily Star have identified another club who are apparently keen on the Bosnian forward.
“Atletico Madrid are ready to abandon the chase for Christian Benteke and go for Edin Dzeko instead,” claims Paul Brown.
“Atletico were willing to bid £24m to sign Benteke from Aston Villa but see Manchester City ace Dzeko as a much cheaper alternative and are hoping to tie up a loan deal with a view to a permanent switch.
“Ironically, they are also targeting Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo, a player who has been linked with City in recent weeks.
“But contact has now been made with Dzeko's agent, though it is unclear whether new Etihad boss Manuel Pellegrini sees the Bosnian as part of his plans.”
“The Nerazzurri have been linked with the 25-year-old in recent weeks but Canovi states that there has been no formal offer as yet,” claims Michael Penkman.
Canovi told FCInterNews.it: "I know that there is interest from Inter for the player. Contacts between the two clubs are between them.
"Inter have contacts with Alexander Livac, the British agent with whom I work. He had telephone contact with those at Inter, but there is still nothing really concrete."
Remember, we here at mcfc.co.uk will be first to confirm any movements in or out of the club this summer!
